The company was founded by the engineer André Gustave Citroën, who, whilst travelling in Poland, obtained a patent for a method of manufacturing a machine for machining gear wheels. The brand’s logo still features a gear wheel. The Traction Avant models were the first to feature, as standard, three revolutionary elements still in use today: a body without a separate frame, independent four-wheel suspension and front-wheel drive, and played a vital role in the development of the automobile worldwide.
