Born in 1942 near Portsmouth (England), Gustav began his military career at the Royal Air Force pigeon loft.
It did not take long for him to earn a reputation within Her Majesty’s forces as a reliable and swift carrier pigeon.
For this reason, Gustav was selected in late May 1944 to carry out a mission of the utmost importance.
Aboard one of the D-Day landing ships, whilst radio communications were cut off, Gustav had to inform England of the success of Operation Overlord.
Despite the fighting, will Gustav manage to cover the 240 kilometres separating him from England? And deliver the good news?
